A brand-new LED lighting system at the Paris Convention Centre’s Grand Amphitheatre is being controlled by solutions from Pharos Architectural Controls.
As a premium multi-space venue, the Grand Amphitheatre is host to a diverse range of national and international events and entertainment. With more than 3,700 seats, it’s a large and imposing venue incorporating hundreds of luminaires.
To improve energy efficiency and reduce power consumption, venue operator, Viparis, commissioned a project to replace the auditorium’s outdated 500W halogen lighting fixtures that had been in place since the venue opened in 1974. The venue now boasts nearly 400 new Anolis Ambiane® LED fixtures, controlled by a Pharos Designer LPC X (Lighting Playback Controller X) which was supplied and programmed by lighting management specialists Lumières Utiles.
The award-winning Designer LPC X offers an extreme level of power and integration, making it an ideal lighting control solution for large-scale lighting installations requiring multiple channel counts.
At the Grand Amphitheatre, the 10 DMX universe LPC X manages the venue’s lighting by running on the existing fibre network. 5,120 DMX channels are specifically dedicated to operating the amphitheatre’s ceiling lighting. Additionally, the LPC X can be hooked into the production lighting for events as and when required.
The upgraded lighting system is part of a larger-scale renovation of the venue’s lighting carried out by lighting designers Lyum and contractors Eiffage Énergie Systèmes. Together with the new lighting control from Pharos, this has resulted in an impressive 300% reduction in the auditorium’s power consumption.
The lowering of electricity usage is a significant benefit as house lighting can typically be on for many hours at a time during event set-ups, rehearsals, and breakdowns. These are an important part of a busy venue’s event calendar, ensuring every activity runs smoothly and securely.
Mark de Gruyter, Sales Director at Pharos Architectural Controls said: “The LPC X is a popular solution, particularly for lighting control in large spaces with multifaceted requirements. Introducing the LPC X at the same time as the upgraded lighting has delivered outstanding results in terms of functionality, reduction in energy usage and a lower carbon footprint. The success of the project is undeniable.”
