An innovative, immersive exhibition that takes visitors on a carefully curated journey through the past, present and future of Formula 1® is being brought to life through the utilisation of winning technology from Pharos Architectural Controls.
Having taken five years from concept to delivery, the Formula 1® Exhibition opened at the world-famous IFEMA MADRID in Spain in the spring of 2023 as an interactive exploration of the unique world of F1®.
Michael Grubb Studio, appointed to provide creative lighting design for the six purpose-built rooms of the exhibition, specified a 40-universe Pharos Designer LPC X (Lighting Playback Controller X) to deliver the all-important lighting control. The visual and artistic use of light played a crucial role in setting the right atmosphere for each room and achieving the goal of making each space feel very different to the last. Displays use audio-visual effects to engage visitors, with the LPC 40 controlling and triggering luminaires, audio technology and other systems.
The Designer LPC X is an all-in-one control solution that is ideal for large-scale LED lighting installations. Featuring individually controllable and independently running timelines and scenes, it lets lighting designers build dynamic and fully customisable pre-programmed lighting effects across multiple discrete zones with the freedom of real-time manual overrides and the versatility of powerful show control.
As a rugged, 19” rack-mount unit, the LPC X is designed for complete reliability even when in 24/7 operation. The success of the exhibition, where dynamic lighting was so integral in showcasing the rich history and immersive nature of F1®, was underpinned by the trust placed on the LPC X.
The robustness of the controller was also a key benefit, as the exhibition is designed to be broken down and moved from one location to another. Vienna was chosen as the second host city, where it opened to visitors to the METAStadt on the 2nd February 2024.
