Free utility for recording sACN and Art-Net eDMX data for flexible playback on Pharos Designer controllers coming soon.
We’re excited to introduce DMX Record, a free software tool capable of recording multiple universes of eDMX for playback on Pharos Designer LPC family controllers. Paired with the powerful show control solutions and flexibility offered by Pharos Designer 2 software, DMX Record unlocks new possibilities for even the largest and most demanding installations.
DMX Record lets you capture complex programming from another lighting control system and import it straight into Designer 2 for playback on Pharos Designer LPCs. Advanced effects on multi-parameter fixtures can be programmed and fine-tuned on almost any lighting console, recorded once, and played back day and night on the famously reliable and installation-friendly range of Pharos Designer controllers like the LPC and LPC X.
Key features of DMX Record include:
Multiple Universe Recording:
Capable of recording up to 16 universes of eDMX simultaneously
Protocol Support:
DMX Record supports both Art-Net and sACN lighting protocols
Flexible Recording Triggers:
Start and stop recording based on specific channel values, manual triggers, or time-based criteria
Robust Playback and Review Features:
Easily review recorded DMX data with timestamped playback and frame-accurate precision trimming
Adjustable Recording Settings:
Customise recording names, storage locations, and recording metadata
Intuitive Interface:
DMX Record offers a user-friendly experience, with no familiarity with other Pharos software required
Designer 2 Integration:
Import programming captured by DMX Record straight into any group on a timeline in Pharos Designer 2
Capturing lighting data with DMX Record
DMX Record can be configured to record eDMX data using either the Art-Net or sACN protocols, with flexible triggers for starting and stopping recording.
For example, a recording can be initiated when the DMX value on a specified channel matches a configurable condition.
Recordings can be stopped manually, after a specified time has elapsed, or according to a configurable DMX value condition.

Review recordings and adjust within DMX Record
Once a recording has been made, it can be reviewed directly within DMX Record with timestamped playback and adjustable playback rate.
Furthermore, DMX Record offers useful editing options including trimming to adjust the start time and duration of a recording.
When finished, recordings can be saved with a name and additional notes, useful for distinguishing between different recordings.

Using recordings in Pharos Designer 2
Recordings can be added to a timeline in Pharos Designer 2 just like any other preset, seamlessly sitting alongside other programming in your project. Effortlessly adjust the length of your recordings and introduce fades using Designer’s timeline tools.
Multiple recordings can be dynamically combined using group programming and timeline priority. Designer’s latest takes precedence timeline priority provides ultimate flexibility for making adjustments to recordings once they have been made. Change a gobo or tweak a colour without having to revisit your console, or record just your movement and apply colour using Designer presets – or even a second recording! Incredibly useful for those last-minute tweaks where re-creating a full recording for a small change could be costly.

DMX Record will be supported from Pharos Designer 2.12 and will be available to download for free soon. For more information about the Pharos Designer range, visit our dedicated webpages.
