Originally built in 937 and rebuilt several times, the Citadel of Namur is a beautiful historic site in Namur, Belgium which has recently undergone an architectural lighting transformation.
The City of Namur wanted an economically and ecologically sustainable new lighting system as part of its citywide beautification project. Pharos partner Philips Lighting worked with lighting designers Radiance35 to create a stunning, colourful installation that bathes the façade of the Citadel at night, rejuvenating the local area after dark to welcome citizens and tourists alike.
As well as enhancing the Citadel, the new lighting system respects the fauna and flora of the – more than 80 hectares large – historical monument and supports the city’s sustainability and economic goals by providing energy efficiency up to 75% compared to conventional lighting.
In total more than 230 Philips Color Kinetics fixtures were installed: 80 Philips ColorReach RGBW and 150 Philips ColorReach Compact RGBW. Keystone Technologies programmed the control on a Pharos LPC 4 that runs the site 24/7, and handles triggering/integration with Philips’ cloud-based ActiveSite software.
