Eskilstuna is a Swedish town found in the South East of the country, lying to the west of Stockholm. The Eskilstuna River runs through the town, which is crossed over by the Faktoribron bridge.
As part of a regeneration project investing in new lighting at a number of locations across the city, the local council wanted to showcase the historic profile of the Faktoribron bridge. Eskilstuna became an industrial town in the 1600s, and ever since several blacksmiths have been carrying out metalwork and iron forging at the foot of the bridge.
To celebrate its industrial history, Faktoribron has been transformed with an eye-catching lighting scheme from Swedish lighting designers K-Konsult, that illustrates and is inspired by the ironworks themselves.
A number of bespoke lighting fixtures on the bridge are intended to represent charred and glowing iron, with the effect created by Lumenpulse RGB LED strips set inside crackled metal casing. The arm of the luminaire has been designed to represent a blacksmith’s anvil, and the illumination of the spillways under the bridge is inspired by the blast furnaces.
Control capabilities come from a Pharos LPC 1, which has highly customisable timelines and scenes that run with the bridge’s new lighting design. This dynamic lighting is bolstered with functional lighting built into the bridge, which is directed towards the foot and cycle paths, making the bridge both practical and now, a work of art in its own right.
