South Tyneside Council has completed a regeneration project at the popular resort of Littlehaven in partnership with Philips and Pharos reseller Lite Ltd to bolster the sea defences and create a new amenity for local residents and visitors to enjoy.
The Philips LED luminaires along the length of the promenade and car parks have been programmed by a Pharos LPC1 to be redolent of the waving of seagrass blades, and each of the luminaires has been fitted with dimmable drivers so that the general lighting can be dimmed during light shows. The luminaires can also be dimmed at quieter times of the night to save energy for a safe, efficient and modern environment.

The Pharos controller allows the Council to complement particular events or times of the year with pre-defined colour-changing sequences. In addition, two specially commissioned works of art have their own dedicated lighting schemes. These feature a Philips Decoscene fitting for the ‘Eye’ and a recessed Philips ColorGraze for the ‘Sail’. Both are wirelessly controlled by an LPC to create a spectacular nighttime coastal experience.
By combining engineering functionality with exemplary artistic design, Lite Ltd, Philips and Pharos have created an inviting attraction for everyone to enjoy throughout the year.
