In previous versions of Designer 2, hovering over fixtures in the Layout view could optionally display fixture patch information in a box of text called a Tooltip. In Designer 2.10, we have added the ability to show additional fixture attributes, including custom properties, when hovering over a fixture in Layout view.

Tooltips showing fixture attributes in a Designer 2.10 Layout
With your project open in Pharos Designer 2.10, navigate to the ‘Layout’ tab on the left of the screen. From here, check the box next to ‘Enable Tooltips’. You will now see fixture information displayed in a Tooltip when hovering your cursor over a fixture in the layout. The Tooltip will show a patch summary by default.

Tooltip showing Patch Summary
To customise the information presented in Tooltips, click ‘Options…’ to the right of the ‘Enable Tooltips’ checkbox.

Clicking ‘Options…’ opens a dropdown menu of fixture attributes
You will be presented with options for each attribute associated with a fixture, including ‘Patch Information’, which is enabled by default. You can select any number of these attributes according to your Project’s requirements or select ‘Check all’ to quickly enable all attributes.
In order to present information clearly, fixture attributes ‘X’ and ‘Y’ are combined as ‘Position’ in Tooltips and attributes ‘Width’ and ‘Height’ are combined as ‘Size’. Fixture attributes relating to Patch are contained in the ‘Patch Summary’ Tooltip option.
Only attributes relevant to a fixture will be displayed in that fixture’s Tooltip. For example, properties like ‘Invert Tilt’ are only applicable to moving fixtures and will not be displayed in Tooltips on static fixtures, even if selected in the Tooltip Options drop-down. Similarly, attributes specific to DALI fixtures can only be selected in Projects with at least one DALI fixture in their Layout.

Only attributes applicable to the selected fixture will be shown in Tooltips
Tooltips will disappear as soon as the cursor is moved away from a fixture, even if the cursor is moved over the tooltip. This makes it easy to investigate all of your other fixtures’ attributes, even when your layout is densely packed.
In addition to built-in fixture attributes, all of your Project’s Custom Properties are available in the Tooltip Options dropdown for display in Tooltips. For more information on Custom Properties, refer to the Custom Properties page on the Designer 2 help pages.
