We’ve added the ability to specify a playback group in timeline and scene triggers in Designer 2.14. This feature unlocks new possibilities for programming your project while simplifying your Designer programming workflow.
Playback Groups
Designer playback groups help you organise your timelines and scenes. Eight playback groups labelled A to H are automatically created when you start a new project. Clicking ‘Manage…’ next to ‘Group’ in a timeline or scene’s properties opens a new popover where playback groups can be added, renamed, renumbered or deleted.

Note: The maximum number of playback groups is limited to 100 per project.
Introducing the ‘In Group’ option
Supported triggers now feature an ‘In Group’ option which appears when ‘Timeline’ or ‘Scene’ is set to ‘Any’. This lets you create triggers which will only fire when the incoming timeline or scene belongs to the playback group you specify.

Supported Triggers
The ‘In Group’ option is available to use in the following triggers:
Supported Timeline Triggers
- Timeline Started
- Timeline Ended
- Timeline Released
- Timeline Flag
Supported Scene Triggers
- Scene Started
- Scene Released
Note: The ‘In Group’ option is only available when ‘Timeline’ or ‘Scene’ is set to ‘Any’.
Examples
Here are some example trigger setups where the ‘In Group’ option has been used to improve a Designer project without needing to create additional triggers.
Start scene ‘Default’ when any scene in group ‘Special Events’ is released.
Master intensity to 100% on all fixtures when any test pattern timeline is started.
Release all timelines in the ‘Afternoon Looks’ playback group when any timeline in the ‘Evening Looks’ playback group is started.
