Add RIO D4 to your project
RIO D4 must be added to your project before fixtures can be patched.
- Click ⊕ Add at the top of the canvas
- Select Devices
- Choose RIO D4
💡 Tip: It’s possible to set up your project without RIO D4 online. Functionality will commence when Express Control finds a RIO D4 with the correct number on the network.
You can associated up to four RIO D4 devices with Express Control, for a total of 16 additional DALI buses. Express Control’s built-in DALI port provides one further bus, for a maximum of 17 DALI buses in one system.

Configure RIO D4
Once added to the project, RIO D4 can be selected in the Network tab of the Tools menu.
- Click Network in the Tools menu
- Click Remote DALI to select your RIO D4
With a RIO D4 selected, the following options are available in the property editor:
| Beacon – use to verify and identify a connected device. | |
| Reload Firmware – allows you to reload the firmware matching the software you are using to the selected hardware device. | |
| Configure – a window opens with the settings available for the RIO D4, including network and IP settings. | |
| Name | A custom name helps identify RIO D4 and is particularly useful when using multiple RIO D4s in the same project. |
| Number | RIO D4 is identified by number. Important: This must match the number set on RIO D4’s rotary dial. |
Patch DALI Ballasts to RIO D4
DALI ballasts can be patched to the ports of a RIO D4. The number of DALI ballasts patched has no impact on your controller’s available channel capacity.
- Click Patch in the Tools menu
- Select the correct Device and Port from the list on the left of the screen
- Drag DALI ballasts from the canvas or the browser to the patch sheet
💡 Tip: Multiple instances of the same ballast can be patched to different ports or even different devices.
