Add RIO G4 to your project
RIO G4 must be added to your project before fixtures can be patched.
- Click ⊕ Add at the top of the canvas
- Select Devices
- Choose RIO G4
💡 Tip: It’s possible to set up your project without RIO G4 online. Lighting data output will commence when Express Control finds a RIO G4 with the correct number on the network.

Configure RIO G4
Once added to the project, RIO G4 can be selected in the Network tab of the Tools menu.
- Click Network in the Tools menu
- Click Remote DMX to select your RIO G4
With a RIO G4 selected, the following options are available in the property editor:
| Beacon – use to verify and identify a connected device. | |
| Reload Firmware – allows you to reload the firmware matching the software you are using to the selected hardware device. | |
| Configure – a window opens with the settings available for the RIO G4, including network and IP settings. | |
| Name | A custom name helps identify RIO G4 and is particularly useful when using multiple RIO G4s in the same project. |
| Number | RIO G4 is identified by number. Important: This must match the number set on RIO G4’s rotary dial. |
Patch Fixtures to RIO G4
Fixtures can be patched to the outputs of a RIO G4.
- Click Patch in the Tools menu
- Select the correct Device / Port / Protocol from the dropdown
- Drag fixtures from the canvas or the browser to the patch sheet
💡 Tip: Multiple instances of the same fixture can be patched to different universes or even different devices.
