Dubai’s latest tourist destination is the spectacular Dubai Frame, which opened in the city’s Zabeel Park in January this year.
The huge new tourist attraction is described as the world’s largest picture frame, at 150 metres tall and 93 metres wide. At the top is a glass-bottomed viewing deck, providing visitors with a 360-degree view of both old and new Dubai. To the south of the tower are modern skyscrapers and the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, while to the north lie some of the city’s beautiful and most historic neighbourhoods.
The Dubai Frame was designed by award-winning architect Fernando Donis, whose previous work includes the Porsche Design Towers and the Dubai Renaissance Tower. Much like these landmark buildings, the lights on The Dubai Frame mark its unique presence in the night sky.
Tryka worked as suppliers for the project, and the Pharos team recommended Pharos partner Creation Gulf to complete the commissioning and programming of the system. Over 3000 RGB LED tiles are used throughout the viewing deck to create vibrant, colourful effects that light the frame up against the night sky. The system is controlled by a Pharos LPC X.
Dharmendra Patel, Managing Director of Creation Gulf said, “The project has control equipment for over 10,000 DMX addresses. These needed to be distributed among the fixtures. We had to track these addresses at the software end and map out to replicate the site’s actual addressing in the program. Lastly, tests were conducted on-site to ensure that each tile can be individually and independently controlled. All of this is before we began programming the actual effects. Following the initial testing, we programmed almost 30 effects and sequences so the client can cycle through them and eventually determine which are the final sequences he would like to use.”
He went on to say of working with Pharos; “Globally, Pharos Controls is renowned as one of the best solutions for Dynamic Controls, especially DMX. Furthermore, from a programming and scene setting perspective, Pharos is very flexible allowing easy customization of effects, colours, speeds and triggers.”
