Faster than light at Ferrari World

    5 May, 2020

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is the world’s first Ferrari-branded theme park. The park is mostly indoors and holds the record for the largest space frame structure ever built. It covers an area of 86,000 square meters and was named Middle East’s Best Theme Park by the Middle East and North Africa Leisure and Attraction Council (MENALAC) for 2018.

Pioneer Lighting was responsible for the supply, installation, programming, testing, and commissioning of special event light fixtures, and chose Pharos control for its powerful and flexible integration capabilities. Pharos LPC X are used to run four of the major attractions of the park, with another ride currently being commissioned and tested.

The four rides using Pharos controllers are:

    • Benno’s Great Race – An interactive trackless dark ride with plenty of synchronised animatronics, lighting and AV effects.
    • Flying Aces – A thrilling and dynamic rollercoaster with the world’s tallest loop at 52 metres! The attraction is inspired by Italy’s ‘ace of aces’ fighter pilot Count Francesco Baracca, whose story is well detailed in the queue line leading to the ride.
    • Italian Street – An indoor, vintage Italian-themed street facade complete with ambient lighting is located inside Ferrari World, and acts as the entrance to the Flying Aces rollercoaster.
    • Turbo Track – A dramatic reverse free-fall rollercoaster. In the queue for the ride, there are plenty of synced screens that gives riders an “all-around, extensive, technical, athletic and cultural training” of the Ferrari enterprise. The ride itself features uniquely designed front-facing and back-facing seats, and two different ascent and descent experiences. The downward plunge offers a hair-raising zero-gravity experience, with lighting and sound to match.

In all the attractions. Pharos is seamlessly integrated with show controller ‘Medialon’ using TCP/IP triggers.

    • Major light fixtures: Elation Professional, Briteq lighting, ADJ, CLS-LED, FOLI UK, Barn Light Electric, ETC Dimmers
    • Control Equipment: Pharos LPC X, Pathports, Briteq ARTNET Nodes
    • Show Controller: Medialon, Bright Sign Player
