Danube Arena, Budapest

This state-of-the-art water sports venue on the banks of the River Danube was created in record time with comprehensive LED lighting for the 2017 FINA World Aquatics Championship.

  • The arena’s LED lighting was designed by local practice Be Light, using products from Thorn and Zumtobel, and is believed to be the first sports venue in Hungary to be lit predominantly with LED
  • In order to serve HD broadcasting, the arena lighting needed homogeneity on the vertical and horizontal planes and flicker-free light at a specific color temperature (5700K)
  • LED fixtures used throughout the arena include: 280 x Altis LED floodlights to illuminate the main pools, 200 x CRAFT high bays LED for the training pool, 569 x PERLUCE ceiling luminaires for common areas
  • The lighting system is controlled with several Pharos controllers; a VLC, seven LPC and three TPC working harmoniously together, for complete colour and zone lighting control over a total of 15,000 digital addresses
