Glasshoughton Wheel of Light, Yorkshire
The Glasshoughton Wheel of Light is a community memorial, standing in commemoration of the Glasshoughton Colliery and Coke Works around which the community was founded. The Wheel is dedicated to the thousands of people who worked at the site in the mining industry, including the many who died due to accident and illness.
- Easy programming of wheel lighting using Designer’s 2D effects and built-in simulation, including looks where it appears to rotate
- Many different timelines programmed and playback controlled using internal clock or remote triggering
- Connection to a GSM-enabled modem allows LPC to send and receive SMS text messages for triggering and status reporting
- Remote monitoring and show upload over the internet using internal web server
- LPC acts as interface and controller for non-lighting systems such as security and power
- Unfortunately, the site did suffer from some vandalism; in order to help with ongoing support the project engineer set up a motion sensor in the control cabinet connected to a contact closure on the LPC, programming it to send him a text message in the event of activity – the LPC called for help!
